Nominations open for AAG Life Members

Last week, we announced that nominations were open for AAG Fellowship and Distinguished Member awards.

Today, we're pleased to announce that nominations have opened for AAG's highest honour: Life Membership. Life Members have a long and distinguished record of service as a member and contribution to the gerontology community at a national level. Awards are made as and when suitable candidates are nominated.

Guidelines for AAG Life Members are available in the AAG online community library and nominations should be submitted via the online form by the deadline of Friday 6 October 2023. Awards will be presented at the 56th AAG Conference dinner on 16 November, on the Gold Coast.

SECG blog: Bridging generations

In the latest blog from AAG's Student and Early Career Group (SECG), Dr Raphaëlle-Ashley Guerbaai considers the remarkable benefits of integrating kindergartens in residential aged care facilities. These include enhanced learning opportunities, cognitive benefits, intergenerational bonding, emotional support and companionship.

Raphaëlle brings her key message home by sharing how the integration of kindergartens in residential aged care facilities exemplifies the extraordinary power of human connection and the potential for transformative change in how we approach care and learning.

International Day of Older Persons

Sunday 1 October is the International Day of Older Persons. This year's theme is 'Fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations'.

On Tuesday 3 October 2023, our friends at Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN) are bringing together members of OPAN's National Older Persons Reference Group for a roundtable. In this free online forum, Margaret Duckett, Judith Covell, Paul Absolom and Ted Cole will share their views on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons and its impact on ageism. Sign up today.
